As a professional athlete in the modern-day, there are few more gratifying feelings than being selected as the cover athlete for your sport’s video game.

This is particularly the case in professional basketball, where there is a new athlete selected each and every year to be on the cover of the sport’s most popular video game, NBA 2K. The 2K series is extremely popular amongst the basketball community, including amongst the players themselves.

Last year, Damian Lillard had the honour of being the cover athlete for NBA 2K21, while Kobe Bryant and Zion Williamson were also used on the cover for special editions of the game. There are various special editions of NBA 2K released each year that will generally come with a different cover to the original that has the main cover athlete.

Most of the NBA’s top stars have been featured on an NBA 2K cover over the last decade or so including LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Paul George.

This year’s cover athletes feature some new faces, with the identities of the new game’s figureheads now being released. But first, if you are looking for great online slot sites then look no further. Inkedin is the location and they have picked out the very best slot sites for you to try out in 2021.

Each of the following stars have been revealed as NBA 2K22 cover athletes.

Luka Doncic

22-year-old Luka Doncic is this year’s main cover star on NBA 2K22 despite wrapping up just his third season in the league. Doncic is now an established superstar player in the league and many already have him as a top 10 talent in the league. The Slovenian native is the face of the game’s standard edition and is the face you will see on the majority of NBA 2K22 covers this year.

Candace Parker

Candace Parker’s name will go down in NBA 2K history as she becomes the first woman to be featured on the cover of the game. She is the face of the GameStop-exclusive WNBA edition of NBA 2K22 and the 2008 number one overall draft pick is a deserving selection. The six-time All-Star also has two MVP’s to her name as well as being named Finals MVP during the Los Angeles Sparks’ title win in 2016.

Kevin Durant

Many would say Kevin Durant is currently the best player in the NBA and, as such, it’s hard to dispute him being featured on the cover of the 75th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K22. Durant is one of three legendary players featured on this particular cover and the Brooklyn Nets forward is making his third appearance on a 2K cover. He was selected in 2013 alongside Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin, before fronting the game’s cover on his own in 2015. Durant is a huge fan of the NBA 2K series and just came off an all-time individual performance despite defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Dirk Nowitzki

Joining Durant on the 75th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K22 is Dirk Nowitzki, who is the second Dallas Maverick to be featured in this year’s game. Nowitzki retired from the NBA’s in 2019 after becoming the only player to play 21 consecutive seasons with one franchise. He is best remembered for winning his one and only NBA Championship in 2011 after beating the Miami Heat’s big three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in their first season together. Nowitzki was a 14-time All-Star and won the NBA MVP in 2007.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

The third and final face on the cover of the 75th Anniversary Edition is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He is one of the most recognisable names associated with the NBA and his iconic skyhook is considered to be the most unguardable shot in league history. A 19-time NBA All-Star, six-time MVP, six-time NBA Champion, two-time Finals MVP, and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with over 38,000 career points, it’s easy to see why Kareem was selected for the cover.

Rui Hachimura

One somewhat surprising additional cover star is Washington Wizards forward Rui Hachimura. Hachimura just finished his sophomore season in the NBA and is the first Japanese player to play in the NBA. The 23-year-old has now been selected to be the cover athlete for the Japanese released of NBA 2K22.
